Spiritual Thought

My turn for the conference talk
"A Time to Prepare"

First, let me just say how lucky I am to have Jason in my life!! He actually does motivate me sometimes to do better. After this talk, we discussed it so much and well he talked a lot more than I did-which I love! Because he explains it better for my understanding.

"Time is never for sale; time is a commodity that cannot, try as you may, be bought at any store for any price. Yet when time is wisely used, its value is immeasurable. On any given day we are all allocated, without cost, the same number of minutes and hours to use, and we soon learn, as the familiar hymn so carefully teaches, 'Time flies on wings of lightning; we cannot call it back' What time we have we must use wisely"

There are so many people out there who are very busy and for those of you who fit in that category, all you want to do it realize; right?! I would agree. The time when I lived in Palmdale I have felt that way, but at the same time I wouldn't want to just take a nap for that time being, because I have been so busy, there were things that needed to get done and that I have been pushing it away. I needed to use my free time wisely. Depending on when I had to be somewhere else, I maybe took a very short nap (which sometimes I didn't do) I did other things in my room, to get it out of the way. Or even; read my scriptures, to study. Because when I did read my scriptures, I seriously felt a lot better! There were a few days that I would arrive to school and read in the car just before walking to class. The rest of the day, i felt a lot better about myself.

"The poor use of time is a close cousin of idleness. As we follow the command to 'cease to be idle' we must be sure that being busy also equates to being productive. For example, it is wonderful to have the means of instant communication quite literally at our fingertips, but let us be sure that we do not become compulsive fingertip communicators"

At times, it is a good thing to be busy, because you are being productive and actually doing things. Since I've moved to Santa Maria with my parents, oh how I missed being busy!! And I must admit, I am addicted to the internet, facebook, pinterest and much more. Remember back in the day, being little when we didn't have all that kind of stuff, playing outside and learning! We were happy and free! I do see some kids who are already addicted to video games and computer games, have all these electronics! Jason and I were talking about our future children. I mentioned that I will have plenty of inside and outside play-that does not consist of computer games and video games (unless they are for fun with the family or learning time) I do got to say, that I've got to spend less time on the internet and more on doing other things. I know that when I moved up to Idaho I will be doing a lot more things, including when I'm married and have Jason by my side!! I will be on the internet less, except for doing homework. Also why not have a time limit on the computer for free time (just like as a kid, mommy and daddy setting a time limit for you so that either the next sibling could go on or time to go outside and play)

"Hiram Page, one of the Eight Witnesses of the Book of Mormon, taught us a valuable lesson about distractions. He had a certain stone and through it recorded what he thought were revelations for the Church. On Hiram’s being corrected, an account says the stone was taken and ground into powder so it would never again be a distraction. I invite us to identify the time-wasting distractions in our lives that may need to be figuratively ground into dust. We will need to be wise in our judgment to ensure that the scales of time are correctly balanced to include the Lord, family, work and wholesome recreational activities"

Jason actually said, that if I don't get better at this that he will pull the plug on me; he will change my facebook password and take the computer away from me-only in the home. At school, it'll be okay. I believe him on that one. There are some are addicted to things and just throws them away, delete their facebook; so that they could have more time for themselves and people who matter most, including Heavenly Father.

"We must devote our time to the things that matter most, and the things of God matter most. As we engage with God in sincere prayer, read and study each day from the scriptures, ponder on what we have read and felt, and then apply and live the lessons learned, we draw nearer to Him. God’s promise is that as we seek diligently from the best books"

Just some more things in the talk that I like too:

"With the demands made of us, we must learn to prioritize our choices to match our goals or risk being exposed to the winds of procrastination and being blown from one time-wasting activity to another"

"Alma spoke of priorities when he taught that 'This life became a probationary state; a time to prepare to meet God”

"Let us be as quick to kneel as we are to text"

"I know our greatest happiness comes as we tune in to the Lord"

I do want to add in, that having the gospel in our lifes, is so peaceful and has true happiness all around us. I have experienced it without it, I didn't devote myself to the church; to want to know more and was just 'lazy' or 'too busy' to pray, read and so forth. The little things do matter, it can reach you to where you should be. Where happiness, it truly is a relaxation for me on my spare time. Also what truly does come first in your lifes? Is Heavenly Father on the top? Or he is second to your family, boyfriend/girlfriend, husband/wife? For me, it's Heavenly Father, even before my fiance! Because Heavenly Father has known me all before Jason has. Also once Jason and I devote ourselves to Heavenly Father-we sure have a greater relationship with each other too.

I'll leave you with this: Jason and I are both working on the things that we need to spend less time on and more time focusing on our Lord and more things related to it. Today: I got a lot of stuff done. I got it done slowly, cause starting yesterday I got sick and I've been quite slow and taking a lot of short breaks (of sitting down and changing the song, I wasn't on facebook more than I have before) Feels great. I sure hope Jason did the same thing with his thing. Which I know yesterday, before listening the talk together; that he has already been getting better. I'm so proud of him!
